Exhibition Opening Speech by Garry Emery

In 2015, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) opened a new dedicated space within the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia to highlight the gallery’s ongoing commitment to presenting a diverse program of design and architecture. The new NGV Design Space, was launched with a retrospective exhibition titled Les Mason: Solo on pioneering graphic designer in Australia, Les Mason.

In his opening speech titled ‘Life Imitates Art’ to the exhibition, graphic designer Garry Emery of Emery Studio reflected on his long standing relationship with Mason – both as a mentor and a friend – giving insight into the complex character and spirit of the man behind the work.

Les Mason: Solo was on display at the NGV The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia from November 2015 to April 2016
